The historic Villa Les Cèdres, 18 thousand internal square meters, immersed in 14 hectares in the splendid French Riviera setting of Cap Ferrat, has just been purchased. The new owner is billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, the richest man in Ukraine and 39th richest man in the world, according to Forbes, with estimated wealth of $16 billion. The Campari Group gained possession of the residence in 2016 as part of the acquisition of the French brand Grand Marnier. According to the authoritative Financial Times, the investment company SCM Holdings Limited finalized this unique property purchase for 200 million euros. The house was commissioned in 1830 by King Leopold II of Belgium and in 1924 was purchased by the French family Marnier-Lapostolle. For almost a century, the family has contributed to its maintenance and to the care of one of the world’s most beautiful botanical gardens, consisting of about 20 thousand plant species. The villa, a perfect combination of history, elegance and pomp, includes countless bedrooms, a party room, a majestic library that can hold up to three thousand volumes, a winter garden, 25 heated greenhouses, a stable for 30 horses, a separate building for service personnel, a private chapel and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Based on the 2016 agreements during the acquisition of the Société des Produits Marnier-Lapostolle, the Campari Group will collect 80 million net from the sale. The remainder is destined for the Marnier-Lapostolle family coffers.
