It is being built in China, about 30 km southwest of Shanghai. The futuristic hotel, designed by the English architect Martin Jochman and named "InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland", is the first in the world to be built below ground level. The structure, built on the site of an 88 meter-high abandoned quarry, has 19 floors, 17 of which are underground. The last 2 offer fortunate guests a unique stay, sleeping surrounded by fish, since the rooms are located " immersed" in the water. This engineering masterpiece, with adjoining amusement park, cost $288 million and took 10 years of work. The hotel has 336 extra luxury rooms with spectacular views of the artificial waterfall, which flows along one side of the quarry, a platform for bungee jumping, a center for water sports and a dedicated climbing area. As you can imagine, the prices aren't exactly cheap, starting from a minimum of 450 euros per night.
